The grommet was conceived more than 10 years ago because of the frustration caused by many busted leader knots, all at the jig from very big fish. The knot itself was not entirely to blame because in many cases, it looked as if it had been cut by the solid ring. The diameter of any connecting ring (on a swivel) should be of a larger diameter than the leader otherwise it might cut the leader. We settled on a grommet because the grooves of the grommet would protect the leader and it has a larger diameter than any solid ring. This system also allowed freedom of movement between lure and assist as well as some separation between them. So now the swivel and grommet for spinning was born and we have never looked back. So many monster fish caught jigging in NZ have been because of this system.

Maxel Moon Edge hooks comprise two different styles of jigging hook – Flat and Ring types. Both styles are heavy wire, lightweight hooks that feature a super wide gap design, a closer point angled to the hook eye, curved points, and a short shank. The Ring style is designed for speed and slow jigging applications and is available in sizes 3/0, 4/0, 5/0, 6/0, 7/0, and 8/0, while the Flat option is for high pitch and slow jigging and comes in sizes 3/0, 4/0, 5/0, and 6/0.
